    SARA-Lite

The TranSwitch SARA-Lite(TM) product is a single chip segmentation and reassembly (SAR) device with integrated OC-3 SONET/SDH framer and AAL0/5 microcode.

SARA-Lite is a combination of a RISC-based ATM cell processor (SARA-2(TM) VLSI device) and associated AAL0/5 microcode (SARA-Lite Microcode). This combination provides the ultimate in high-performance and programmable flexibility. SARA-Lite will enable system designers to provide ATM SAR solutions, and to add enhancements and accommodate standards changes later by simply installing software microcode updates without changing the silicon.

The SARA-Lite microcode is loaded into the instruction memory of the SARA-2's integral RISC processor and it enables the VLSI device to perform the specific AAL Type 0/5 SAR functions with CBR, VBR and UBR traffic management. In addition, the SARA-Lite supports the implementation of frame relay and local area network (LAN) emulation services.

The SARA-Lite product can support up to 64,000 virtual connections simultaneously and its rich suite of standards-based traffic management, operations, test and support features enables it to be used in the most demanding ATM network applications
